Hi I'm Joseph!
I am an illustrator based in Edinburgh and Newcastle-upon-Tyne, who is inspired by fantasy aesthetics and antique scientific illustration. I use this combination of influences to create designs with rich colours and textures, by merging traditional painting approaches using gouache with digital processes.
My final MA project, Beowulf takes the medieval epic of the same name and reimagines the location and characters through the lens of contemporary set design. For each of the three main factions in the tale, I have designed a pattern repeat, which have then been deconstructed and repurposed to create a series of costume designs and set items.
