Project description

The Social Change Collective is an everyday, routine alternative to socio-political engagement. In the midst of a very dangerous and fear ridden time, with many young people feeling anxious and uneducated politically, mass disengagement presents itself as a very real possibility.

When elected officials routinely fail however, the last check of power lies in us, the people. That is why the Social Change Collective aims to educate, support and empower people to contribute to socio-political change. Taking the functionality and habitualness of the common jacket, wearers are equipped with the essential tools to engage, through a subscription service that comes upon purchase of the garment. Designing accessibility, inclusivity and reliability, the initiative aims to remove feelings of stress and powerlessness that a very exclusive and elitist political realm has created.

Three people sitting on steps reading newspaper
The Social Change Collective aims to bring people together under a common set of societal values, and a desire to feel more educated politically. Here, three subscribers are reading the news together, promoted by the designed pouch to carry broadsheets.
Wearing the Social Change jacket
The Social Change jacket has been designed to not only be functional, but stylish, and something that people actually want to wear, and can wear in any circumstance, come rain or shine

The various logos and text on the The Social Change Collective aim to help spread the good word of political empowerment and literacy, whilst reminding you that you are contributing to something bigger than yourself; a collective; hope; democracy

Just like the monthly tools, the jacket has been carefully designed to support the user. As functional as it gets, the Social Change jacket is versatile, and supportive, whilst housing the essential resources to make politics everyday and habitual.
Playing the month one card game
The resources included each month are designed to be small, concise, interactive, and manageable; to be taken on the go, on your own, or with people. The monthly card game is a prime example of this - a tool to develop confidence, with people, for fun.
Two people reading monthly magazine on street corner
The monthly magazine is a staple of the subscription service. It relies entirely on the people for all sorts of contributions, in that subscribers are encouraged to submit their own work - opinion pieces, reviews, conversations, stories, art work etc
