Artist statement
My work synthesises digitally mediated aesthetics into analogue woven paper images as a personal response to the unforgiving speed and expansion of systems that glorify competition, productivity, and unconscious consumption over contemplation. Recent work focuses on city and nightlife imagery; the ambience of these visual moments is illustrated through the obscuring and abstracting of imagery. The work explores contrasts between loud and quiet, loose and tight, abstract and overt. Through combining geometric order with imperfect forms and delicate materiality, the work aims to build a rhythmic visual language reflecting a poetic dissonance within uncertain times.
