Artist Statement

In my multi-disciplinary artworks, I explore the complexities of transmasculinity materially and conceptually through exercise, superheroes, and abstracted ceramic sculptures. Examining the diversity, perseverance, and fluidity of transgender/superhero identities, TRANSformation and Again and Again present fitness as a binary gender transgressive act. 

Moreover, I explore materiality through ceramics, using coiling to repetitively mould gendered ‘bodies’ over time. Trad-man and Made masc express themes of gender performativity, medicalisation, and change. This installation visually juxtaposes traditional masculinity with transmasculinity, encouraging audiences to dissect their understanding of masculinity. Superhero experimentation stylistically alludes to a more empowered future achievable through demedicalised gender freedom.
