My practice is an exploration of Albanian cultural identity, political resistance, and memory. Central to my approach is the legacy of my ancestors, the Toptani family, and their struggle for independence after five centuries of Ottoman occupation. Through layered oil washes and fragmented transfers of archival imagery, I examine the interplay between national history and personal memory, revealing underrepresented narratives of my family’s experiences under Albania’s dictatorial regime, a past defined by censorship and political suppression. Ultimately, my work honours a legacy of resistance, whilst confronting the tragic recurrence of oppression in the wake of liberation.
